Another fun watercolor class last week. We worked on some fall leaf paintings. I did a painting at home as an example and then did a demo at class.

I was able to photograph three student's paintings and then the battery on my camera died, so I will just post them.

One more class next week and then this series is complete.

Our third class of our six week spring series of Watercolor with Jean was learning how to create textures and backgrounds to our paintings first and then incorporating a subject or subjects after the background dries. It's a lot of fun to mix our paints and textures for an almost abstract painting. Then look for pictures in the textures and making them come to life. We found flowers, butterflies, and shells.

I painted one at home and it evolved into another shell painting. I used this painting as an example of what you could create using this method.

I did a demo in class to showed how to create our background and later added what I could visualize in the textures and colors. I showed them how to see and paint the flowers I saw there. I wasn't able to finish it in class, but they got the idea. I did finish it at home and will bring it to class next week.

They did have fun watercolor painting this way and here they are with their paintings.

We worked on our tomatoes in class again this week and we got some very good results. The tomatoes look delicious and good enough to eat!

I was at the supermarket and they had these luscious red tomatoes on the the vine. I decided they would make a wonderful still life to paint. After unpacking them I set them up on the counter with enough lighting to make wonderful shadows. I then photographed them for our next class "Watercolor with Jean".

I could resist painting them myself.

At the beginning of my next class I set up the projector with my tomato photograph, and the class went to work painting tomatoes. It's always fun teaching how to create light and shadows. It's a project that will go into next week's class, but the class got a good start.
